Emory is a small city in Rains County, Texas, with a thriving population of 1,536 citizens. The community was originally named Springville for its many natural springs. In 1870, Springville was renamed in honor of Emory Rains, a legislator from the community and the author of the Homestead Law of Texas. The citizens voted on a location for the county seat and chose Emory as the name.
